The Sphere

The 25-foot bronze sculpture, created by German sculptor Fritz Koenig, originally depicted a head wearing a helmet, contrasting with architect Minoru Yamasaki's modernist towers at the original World Trade Center.

Damaged on 9/11, the sculpture spent years in Battery Park before finding a permanent home in Liberty Park within the new WTC last year.

Now, surrounded by the striking glass towers of the megaproject, it stands as a poignant reminder of the past.
